There are 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches that form 60 possible combinations that are called Pillars. Each day has a pillar. They repeat in a continuous cycle of 60. The 12 Earthly Branches are also known as the Chinese Zodiac or Animal Branches.
If you don’t know your Stems and Branches yet, you can flip up the bottom half of the calendar and on the back cover there is a key (fourth image).
The illustration page for each Gregorian month (second image) includes the name and start date of the Chinese month. In the background of each calendar page (third image) you’ll find the lucky flower for the Animal Branch of the Chinese month.
