The Hsia Calendar, sometimes known as the Ten Thousand Year Calendar, 萬年曆 Wan Nian Li, is a fundamental tool for any kind of Date Selection. It’s cheaper and more fun than using a calculator. To a western brain, the format of the Hsia calendar moves “backwards”. In my experience, this will change how you think – in a good way. Go analog and form some new pathways in your neural network!
For those familiar with the Ten Heavenly Stems and the Twelve Earthly Branches, it will only take an hour to get comfortable navigating and using the lunisolar Hsia calendar. You won’t have to write the 22 characters, but you will want to recognize and identify them in order to read the calendar.
