2024 US Presidential Election

I’ve recently published a couple of posts about US Presidential Elections and Ba Zi. One about the pattern of our elections and one about the patterns of elections held in a Dragon year. You may want to read those first. In this article I will focus on election results in a Wood Dragon year, starting with general considerations. and then working down to a Wood Dragon year like this one. What I mean is, not all Wood Dragon years occur in time cycle like the one we are in, so you want to focus on the ones that do.

2024 is a Wood Dragon year in the Chinese Calendar. The pillar consists of yang Wood sitting on top of the Dragon whose main element is yang Earth. Wood controls or clashes Earth.

The image here for me is of Wood grabbing Earth and sinking down its roots. Wood has an advantage over Earth. What might that say about who will win the election?

The relationship of the yang Wood and the yang Earth is called 七煞 Qi Sha or 7 Killings. In this case the relationship is between Wood and Earth, but any element has a Qi Sha. You can recognize it when there are clashing elements together that have the same polarity, meaning both are yin or both are yang. Qi Sha is about force and sometimes, breaking laws. When both signs are yang, the potential rewards and risks are big and out in the open. This is where we are now.

Generally speaking, if you want to be the leader of a country, it helps to have that Qi Sha energy. Remember, I didn’t make these rules.

US Presidential Election of 2024

If you want more clues about who will win, you might start by looking at the election results of past Dragon years to find a pattern. We already know that Monkey, Rat, and Rooster have special privileges when it comes to the Dragon. It seems to be helpful to have the Wood element or potential Wood element in the year pillar.

Although Monkeys are favored in Dragon years so far only one Monkey was elected in a Dragon year and that was Lyndon B. Johnson. As of now in 2024, there are no Monkeys in the running.

In a Dragon year, generally speaking the Dragon is not favored. It seems unlikely that Marianne Williamson, a 1952 Water Dragon, can win. She’s resumed campaigning as I write this, having already dropped out once. Is it a self clash? Or is she finally putting herself in service with her campaign that is said to be about ideas and not winning?

Current Vice President Kamala Harris is a 1964 Wood Dragon. Kamala doesn’t seem have a good chance to be elected President, but she might have a shot at being the President anyway. She has the Wood. Wood is what she does. Her birth year matches this Wood Dragon year. Kamala Harris will be on the ticket as VP nominee with Biden again in 2024. Her Ba Zi makes me think there might be more in store for her this year than that, and despite the self clash, Dragons do get some good luck in a Dragon year. Woodrow Wilson was born in a Fire Dragon year and elected 60 years later in a Fire Dragon year.

As for Rats, there are two who have won the US Presidential election in a Dragon year. That would be Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush, both born in a Wood Rat year. That would have made 1972 Water Rat Nikki Hayley the Rat to watch but she has ended her campaign. Still, the Rat is usually the main influencer in the US.

Only one Rooster has ever been elected President, that’s Fire Rooster Grover Cleveland, elected for the second time in a Water Dragon year of course! There is one Rooster running now and that’s Claudia De La Cruz, born in a Metal Rooster year.

For me, Robert F Kennedy Jr who was born in January 1954 has a Horse like physicality, however, in a political arena any Kennedy tends to Snake. Those are their ancestors. Maybe RFK Jr has the Wood but is it robust enough? Would you read him as Wood Horse or Water Snake? I can see tendencies of both.

Born in 1953, Cornel West is a Water Snake. Maybe we can summarize his personality best as politician and philosopher. People have been anxious to write him off due to his “interesting” personal life but he’s no different than any of these other guys. He recently announced Dr. Melina Abdullah who was born in a Water Rat year as his running mate. She was born in a Rooster month. Maybe her luck is better than his.

If Wood is a helpful element to have in the year pillar when you’re running for election in a Dragon year, Joe Biden, a 1942 Water Horse is lucky.* Speaking of Wood, what about 1950 Metal Tiger Jill Stein?

And finally, let’s address the woolly mammoth in the room, that is, Trump. Trump was born in a Fire Dog year which means this year is a clash for him. Trump has no Wood in his year pillar. I really doubt he can be elected but as I said, there have been people born in a Dog year elected in a Dragon year: Wood Dog Herbert Hoover won in 1928 and George H.W. Bush (Fire Dog) in 1988. Those were elections held in Earth Dragon years. The 戊辰 Earth Dragon pillar always reminds me of something like a Dog on top of a Dragon so…maybe that’s what it takes. Herbert Hoover does have that Wood in his year pillar though.

Since I do think we’re due for a woman President soon, let’s ask President Gerald Ford how that might happen. All I can say is, this scenario put forward also is plausible, however, it’s all going to come down to timing isn’t it?

A couple of thoughts:
When a VP assumes the office of President mid term, in the next election they are the incumbent which is an advantage but not a guarantee.

I don’t think it has ever happened that a VP has taken over for a President elect, meaning they are not yet inaugurated. Do let me know if I’m wrong about that!

Possible Correlations Between US Presidential Elections of 1844 and 2024

Now, if we want to use history to inform the forecast, the Wood Dragon year that stands out most as relevant to 2024 is 1844 when James K. Polk was elected. Obviously 2024 will not be a replay of 1844, however, we should see some similar events.

James Polk Facts

James Polk was born in a Wood Rabbit year which actually points us to an important clue: most of the candidates who win in a Dragon year have the Wood element or potential Wood element in their year pillar in the Heavenly Stem or Earthly branch. Candidates with this quality may have an edge. Remember what I said about Qi Sha.

1.  Polk entered his party’s convention as a potential nominee for vice president but emerged as a compromise to head the ticket when no presidential candidate could gain the necessary two-thirds majority.

James Polk entered the convention as nominee for Vice President and ended up being the President.

Given the health status of Biden and Trump, whoever is in the VP position this year may have a good chance to end up as the President. That includes Kamala Harris for sure. Robert F Kennedy Jr. has chosen Nicole Shanahan as his running mate. I expect Donald Trump will see the advantage of selecting a woman as his VP nominee too. The other Presidential candidates are women. It seems likely we could have a woman president.

2.  Polk is known for extending the territory of the United States through the Mexican–American War during his presidency, annexing the Republic of Texas, the Oregon Territory, and the Mexican Cession after winning the Mexican–American War.

During his presidency Polk waged war on the south.

James Polk’s land grab increased the disparity of the distribution of wealth and power in the United States. Note how the land now called Texas was involved. Whoever wins will probably continue with border walls and land grabs.

The way that Polk took big parcels of land from indigenous peoples during his single term suggests the Wood Dragon of 2024 involves the beginning of a land grab. Regardless of whether U.S. citizens are the occupiers of land that is grabbed in 2024, we already know that the U.S. is involved in the grabbing.

3.  Polk helped make the U.S. a nation poised to become a world power, but with divisions between free and slave states gravely exacerbated, setting the stage for the Civil War.

This kind of energy follows the Water pattern of US Presidential elections and the influence of the Rat.The influence of the Rat is prevalent in a Dragon year.

By increasing the wealth/power gaps, James Polk set up supportive circumstances for future conflict between north and south.

Unfortunately, it’s not hard to imagine plausible and even likely scenarios where all three of these things could happen in 2024 or following years regardless of who is the US President. People who seem to know more about time than I do say that the future is what shapes the past and not vice versa. If that’s true, and the outcome is the same regardless of who is President, does it matter who wins?

Like Lucretius, who believes that the swerve of an atom can influence important events, I think it does matter who wins. I don’t believe everything about the future is fixed; there is some flexibility. With the Dragon present this year you never know what quick changes might happen and what good could come from them if we had a new kind of leader. To summarize, I think ultimately a woman will be serving as number 47. Kamala Harris seems to have a good chance to be the one, although I’m not sure she wants that.
