The Sheep in 2024 ~ Wood Dragon Year

Oneiros not Onerous

The Water Rabbit year of 2023 was a pretty big deal for those with a Sheep in their day pillar. The Wood Dragon of 2024 looks less eventful regarding romance. If you like where you landed, be ready to do the partnership maintenance. Expect a quieter year on the surface, but one filled with very important matters!

Even for a Sheep, sometime it pays to be aggressive. Be careful with that. This Wood Dragon year asks you to push yourself to get the money to facilitate your dreams, but there’s only so much time in the day to spend on work. Give priority to clear communication with the people you love.

Take advice from the Ox (a Nobleman this year) who values routine and understands that big things take time. Most of your problems can be solved through patience and communication. Consider that you might benefit by deviating from paternal family patterns, or maybe you could use a new guiding force. This year delivers some fresh yang energy coming into your life to support you. That could tend to slow other things down.

In the Wood Dragon year, Sheep who want to go faster will go alone, but that’s not the usual Sheep way is it? In 2024 you have heaven’s support when it comes to solving big scale problems so it’s probably better to have a team. You’re also designated to receive some grace from the Universe about time and timing. Perfect. By way of your enhanced organizational skills this year, you can solve future problems too. The Sheep is meant to dream things up and direct them.

Every year there are four 神煞 Shen Sha that people hope to receive. They are 太陽 Great Sun, 太陰 Great Moon, 福徳 Fortune Virtue and 龍德 Dragon Virtue. These blessings are distributed annually amongst the 12 Earthly Branches. Everyone gets a turn eventually.

In 2024, the Sheep is blessed with the energy of the Tai Yin or Moon. With the Great Yin the Sheep has a facility for making things happen when they focus their work behind the scenes. Focus on negotiations and making connections between people. Run everything while staying out of sight. Don’t think that no one knows about you. They absolutely do.

Sheep will find benefit in 2024 by teaming up with the Snake. The Snake will help you emphasize what is special about you. They can help with your public life, marketing and shaping your “brand”. The Snake can draw the Sheep into the long term future, and the energy that supports this alliance remains until winter of 2027. If you’re looking for more attention in general or some extra hours of work, team up with Snake now. They’ve got the data. You don’t have to like them but you may come to find that you do.

If your month pillar is Sheep and you aren’t already in a job where you help people with things they worry about, maybe it’s time to add that kind of service. Some of your friends, family, critics and opponents are busy with breakups or potential breakups. People have plenty of things to figure out. Follow your heart and not your past experiences if they need your help. That might still be a no. Maybe you’re learning who deserves your soft place to fall.

With Moon, it’s a good year for the Sheep to start a business either solo or in partnership. You might do both. As I mentioned earlier, this year you may be more effective if you stay behind the scenes.

Some Sheep may be more involved with governing agencies in 2024. I imagine this might have to do with setting up new businesses, social services, immigration or work contracts. Among the possible governing agencies are academic institutions and health care organizations.

In 2024 there are two Noblemen and guess what Sheep? You are one of them. You are meant to help people. This isn’t a new role for you I’m sure. The Ox, who is the other Nobleman, may not be as able to help as you are. It’s not that they don’t want to, it’s their luck this year. You can choose whether you want to take up the slack. This is a typical position for a Sheep to find themselves in – maybe you are cleaning up others’ messes again. If you don’t want that, don’t sign up for it. There will be other opportunities.

If Sheep is in your year, your parents may be especially helpful to you, depending on your elemental relationship with Earth. This Nobleman energy might be accidental, or due to family ties. Maybe a place to stay, access to medical care/insurance or other domestic assistance is offered. If Sheep is in the day, it’s definitely you who has received the assignment. You can always choose not to follow the energy of the year, but why not find ways to use it instead?

In 2023, the majority of people who were laid off recently are not necessarily Sheep, but in 2024 Sheep might represent that kind of group – a group that is worried there are too many in it. They may be concerned about all the other people who are in the same position they are in. Many people looking for work. Many are looking for a place to call home. Many people are ill. I think the Sheep is often the embodiment of the zeitgeist, meaning they symbolically (or otherwise) live out the range of experiences in the current social climate.

Here’s the solution: As usual it’s team up!

Use the good luck you do have. It’s enough to help yourself and others. Good things and bad things can happen at the same time. It’s the people and energy that we run into when we are doing good deeds that teach us who we can become, even if that takes a long time. The challenges of the year are meant to deepen your compassion, that is, to make you more yourself. I don’t say that unless I think it’s true.

One of the biggest challenges of the year for the Sheep will likely be psychological. There may be a trauma from your past that rises to the surface again. Should this happen to you, I want you to know that it’s not because you “didn’t do the work”, because even when you do the work this will still happen from time to time.

We cannot completely avoid the patterns of our fate but we can certainly learn that they don’t have to manifest the same way every time. If the Sheep is in your year pillar, this trauma may relate to your parents. Is it their trauma or theirs? Did they share it with you? In what way? What was handed down?

If the Sheep is in your day pillar, your trauma may have to do with your home life or most intimate relationships. If it’s in your month, it could involve a sibling, an ex or something at work. If the Sheep is in your hour, I imagine you might think about it a lot this year, or maybe it involves your children. Maybe both. That might be the most challenging one.

Even though we don’t choose to experience trauma, it is a hook and we are the only ones who can let ourselves off of it. You do need help for that. The horrible thing about trauma is it might put you in a position of resisting everything, including things that could help you. If you find yourself saying no too much, experiment with saying yes. You can always change your mind.

If you’d like to explore this topic more, Ba Zi offers a model for a fresh perspective on healing and what is possible. Elemental solutions can be applied. Be gentle with yourself. We need you Sheep!

Even though I know you’ll doubt me, I want to make sure I’m clear here at the end: your good luck in 2024 certainly outweighs the bad. Expect and seek magic.

The Horse in 2024 ~ Wood Dragon Year

Sweet Relief

2024 is going to be a pretty good year for the Horse. This is the beginning of a new time, a new era. This Wood Dragon is just the first taste. To maximize your good luck, seek all the things that make you healthier both physically and otherwise. Relationships are one. You might choose to focus on the romantic ones this year, but they are all equally important.

To work with the power of the year, the Horse will want to be careful of who they endorse. Popularity has little substance. You should know that better than anyone. Are your heroes worthy of your accolades? The Dragon has friends and associates whose agendas can clash yours. The Rat is one. In 2024 the Rat has some special privileges, bringing echoes of 2020. You may become the focus of Water energy again. It’s a good time to re-examine your perceptions about that. This is not a dire situation.

The metaphor of trying to kill what you love is true when it comes to Water and Fire unless there is a conscious choice made by both parties to create something new. Some of this has to do with surrender, but most of it has to do with standing your ground in a purposeful way. I might call that clashing yourself.

With the way the balance of Water and Fire defines a Horse’s life, a helpful solution is to talk about your emotions with a trusted friend. The Sheep comes to mind. The Sheep helps to calm things down.

If you’ve made repairs to health or relationship since 2020, reinforce them. Most of the work of the year involves changing your mind. Mostly it’s too easy, however, when it comes to certain people, it seems impossible. Try not to take either situation as a failure or a loss. If you’ve turned on a dime before, you can do it again, however that might look or how awkward and painful it might be.

Horses understand the energy of the Wood Dragon, which is sometimes known as the Candle Flame. The idea of a candle’s flame is something a Horse can relate to, keeping your eyes on the future so you can get there. Horses don’t need to know how. Dragons don’t need to know how either.

While the Rooster is the Dragon’s Secret Friend, the Horse is overlooked when it comes to being the Dragon’s biggest fan and supporter. These three together make a House of Self Clash where there is often great love and appreciation. Maybe it’s that they understand each other’s self clash?

The relationship of the Horse to the Dragon and the Rooster to the Dragon are very different. The Horse can never hold the whip hand the way a Rooster will when it comes to the Dragon. The Rooster will never encourage the Dragon’s more serious endeavors as much as the Horse does. The Rooster will allow no one but the Horse to soothe them and make them laugh. Between Horse and Dragon is always the agreement that the Dragon is in charge.

If you are a Horse who wants to be more independent and self-sustaining, don’t ask for permission to do it. Give it to yourself this time. Commit to that. You’re not going to experience the kind approval you want from the Dragon even when it’s given. Stop worrying about it.

In a Dragon year, there’s more substance to what some call the Horse’s showing off. The Horse’s dual nature often expresses a conflict between external reputation and personal relationships. In public matters a Horse may seem recklessly unafraid. In matters of intimacy it might be a different story. Are you ready to change that yet? Have you already been changing?

The answer to my question is important because the Special Stars of 2024 suggest Horses are in a mood to make everything right. Start with yourself. Start where you live. If you’re questioning whether you are with the right partner, in the right job, or in the right place and not doing something about it, somebody could get burned. This is not inevitable. If you’re not sure about your commitment, they are probably not sure about your commitment either. Be who you mean to be. It might be time for a no regrets policy. Horses are usually not good at lying. Make that your asset. Be kind.

Even if you haven’t decided yet what you want to do about your urges, the place to begin is one of those uncomfortable talks where, if you can stay present, any problem can be solved. If you want to be caught, try not to run away this time. Even though your partner is aware that you’re feeling unsteady, they may need some time to catch up. Don’t try to rescue them. This is a team effort. It will require practice.

It’s the ups and downs of 2024 that may trouble a Horse the most, but they can be mitigated through your choices. The year could feel more unstable than it is, and you can certainly mitigate potential problems. For example, avoiding situations involving physical risk is a good plan. That would include visiting locations that are prone to natural disasters even though it seems like a good idea at the time. Question yourself about travel. Does it make sense?!

If you’re a Horse hoping for a better material life or more status, this year will provide opportunities for that. I’m hoping higher status means there are more people who know about you, more people who respect you and your work and more people who hold you in high esteem. This isn’t about being powerful, rich and famous. It’s about getting some relief after the trials of the Water cycle. It’s okay to enjoy the external and material things.

Horses who have been putting off a surgery may want to schedule it this year. You could give blood instead as a way to mitigate potential injuries. A thorough cleaning of your teeth at the dentist might help too. June is a good month for all that.

The first half of the year is filled with resources and supporters for the Horse. Start the year running. Start pacing yourself when we hit April to avoid burnout. You might have a second wind in June.

In the second half of the year, there’s going to be a lot of Water. This could generate some free floating anxiety for the Horse. Let yourself cry as much as you need to. Let that Water move on.

As I like to remind people I work with, there will be good and bad things at the same time. Don’t miss out on the experiences you want to have. Encourage hope, joy and light and you will also receive it.

Just in case you’re still worried, there’s one more thing I want to say about Water and Fire:

I think the Rat secretly loves the Horse. I think the Rat is often obsessed with the Horse, but the Horse may not always be in a position to survive it. The opposition of Water feels personal to the Horse. The Horse’s freedom feels wrong to the Rat…and so it goes unless there is love. I suppose that means that in Period 9, once again love is the answer.

The Snake in 2024 ~ Wood Dragon Year

The Waiting is Over

It’s been a long road since 2019 and some Snakes are still waiting for their comeback. If that’s you, consider yourself in the right place. According to your pattern, you’re right where you should be. Stick with your efforts at restoration. If you’re a caretaker of others, be patient with yourself and them. You know about waiting and the work required to be prepared when the right moment arrives. You are the successor now.

This year, Snakes enjoy the blessing of the 太陽 Tai Yang or Sun. This energy of the Sun brings a special time for the Snake when they can take their pile of evidence, training and ideas and turn it into something everyone can clearly see. Put attention on the pertinent facts. Tell the story. Connect the dots. This is how problems can be solved. Stick with the truth. Be consistent. Along with the other blessings you have this year, you can see the future. I’m not referring to being psychic (although not ruling it out), but rather having the logic and vision to see what is going to happen well forward in time.

In the Wood Dragon year of 2024, the Snake will have been waiting patiently or impatiently for their turn. What if you are waiting for 2025 when you don’t have to? Do you hear what I’m saying? It’s not too early to come out of hiding. Friends are available. The Universe is poised to mentor you.

It’s going to be a good year for the Snake. Should it happen that some of the year’s opportunities disappear at the last minute, ask yourself if you already knew what would happen. The potential fallout will likely be mostly psychological – the feeling that someone else’s grass is always greener. Is that paranoia? Suspicion? Reality? There are more opportunities to come in the near future. Don’t worry about it.

While the Tiger may be the expert when it comes to knowing the right moment to kill, the Snake has mastered the art of waiting. When you’re a Snake, you learn to see the patterns and you often choose to wait it out, that is, except when a Monkey is involved. The Monkey is your Secret Friend. This is important to know in 2024 when the Monkey has connections with people you would enjoy as teachers or mentors. Without the Monkey, the Snake will maybe spend too much of their time waiting, wanting to be certain of their final form. Don’t you know by now that your flexibility might keep you waiting forever Snake?

A Snake’s form is not permanent, however, there is a pattern to how it changes. A Snake’s favorable elements may change over time. For 2024 I recommend you seek Fire*. By Fire this time I mean the people nearby who will help you create warmth and joy by way of mutual assistance, even in difficult circumstances. Encourage others and they will encourage you.**

Since it’s a Snake’s nature to stay hidden in some way, if you’re feeling lonely in 2024, I’m going to guess it’s by choice. Maybe you’re still unsure about commitment and what it means to you, or what it means to your potential partner. If you’re not sure what you want, know that your choices will reveal your priorities. What you do reveals what you want. If you want to meet friends and lovers, it helps to engage socially. I hope you will also consider that too much isolation, even when it is your choice, could be dangerous.

The Wood Dragon year will be a year of dealing with boundaries and how they might be respected, disrespected, and purposely or inadvertently crossed. Snakes will be trusted to bring the facts about such matters to light. This gives you a lot of power to exercise.

Snakes are some of the most important people when it comes to the 2024 US Presidential election because they have the most influence and vision. Many a Snake plays the role of politician or diplomat on the family level or in bigger venues despite (because of?) their desire to avoid the spotlight. Snakes often have stories of how they track information and use reverse engineering to find patterns that others miss. This skill can be used to enlighten, confuse. or amuse. That’s a Snake thing too.

Snakes know that the presentation of information influences how it is received, but no matter how eloquent and honest you may be, you can’t please everyone. Trying to do so is a trap for the Snake.

2024 is a year where the Snake’s gifts of discernment and scholarship are enhanced. Your ideas are important so protect them. You might do that by teaching. Writing and other academic achievements will bring Snakes attention and fame as well. If you’re a Snake who doesn’t consider yourself a writer, this year might change your mind. Not ready to go public with your work? The ideas you have this year are the raw material for your creativity well into the future so write them down. If there’s something that catches your attention, dive in. You’ll know quickly whether you’re digging in the right place. Research is satisfying, yet this year it feels very risky to the Snake who often is endangered by knowing too much.

Most Snakes can enjoy having enough (or more) money this year and will be paid well for their work. Instead of lending money, either give it or do not. Repayment seems unlikely this year.

Recognize that you might be putting together something important out of materials that no one else deemed worthwhile. Snakes are good at making do with what is available at any given moment in time. To maximize your luck, cobble together your skill set to create the role or job you want. You’re probably already doing it and if you have enough experience, you’re probably good enough to be paid for it. If you’re inexperienced or untrained, a Snake will probably be the one to question your competency. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

The best remedy for almost any Snake ailment this year is proper breathing, which will make a big difference in helping you through any illness or other stress. Try breathwork.

On a related note, for the Snake the possible dangers of 2024 likely have to do with burning and smoke. You can take this literally and metaphorically. If Snake is your year, this relates to your ancestors and experiences they may have had. I mean, it is dangerous to be so willing to expose the truth. History will confirm that. Some people will say you’re taking advantage. Regardless of the associated risks, your assignment this year is to shine a light. Step into the light. Timeliness makes it safe.

**This advice is safe for anyone I think.

The Dragon in 2024 ~ Wood Dragon Year

It’s Above You Now

In 2024 the Dragon is the Tai Sui. Some Dragons will be empowered, others may be plundered. A seasoned Dragon will tell you these experiences are not mutually exclusive. You’ll be in charge of everything, though that may be lost on you when you need to know it most, so don’t forget! You are the boss of the year.

With the kind of mandate you have this year, you’ll want to get advice from strategists and people who are good at being hands on. This will help you not to hurt yourself with the big moves of which you are capable.

Assume the gravitas. It’s time.

“You may be capable of big things, but life consists of small things.”
Deng Ming-Dao

What does this mean to the Dragon in 2024? What if it means that the big things you are capable of consist of a million small things you do? What if it means that big things happen through you, not because of you or for you? What if big events in the world are the accumulation of the small things that ripple out from you? Dragons are catalysts, and in this time, we could use some unexpected reversals.

Although Dragons usually go unappreciated regarding the process of the reversals that they bring, I think we can trust that some disruption is needed if we don’t like the direction in which things are going.

Dragons can expect an exposing kind of year where they are both running the show and being confronted by their own follies. The yang Wood that also governs this year (and you) might feel like anger. Your assignment is to channel it into change. You do have the resources for this.

In 2024, Dragons are elected by the Universe to be at the top of the wheel of fortune.

To be elected is to be chosen; chosen by forces you can’t control. To be elected is to be identified as the most appropriate person for the role, and to be appointed by those who want you to execute it. Following this logic, most of the leaders in our modern culture were not/are not elected. Being popular is not the same as being elected. The electorate can be controlled.

When someone is truly elected, as Dragons are this year, it is likely that they weren’t seeking the position. These choices you are offered may not be what you’ve envisioned for yourself. This is your year, but it’s not all about you! Here’s a tip: the person whose dream you enable is the person that will become your loyal supporter. I think this is one of the ways Dragons accumulate power. If you want power, then you don’t pursue power, you pursue service. Will you do it?

Being a Dragon, I think you’ll consider the depth and range of what you might set in motion this year and decide you’re in. Remember, you reap the rewards of your service more than your striving. I know this can be frustrating, but if the Dragon is no one’s Nobleman, then they are potentially everyone’s Nobleman. It’s as simple as first principles: yin and yang.

In the times when the Dragon is not flying in 2024, they will question their agency as it applies to making changes in their own life. They might question why their actions seem to benefit others more, and whether or not their role is valued. If you’re a Dragon who is not seeing the desired results of your actions this year, it’s simply because you don’t know the range of your touch. If you knew, you might even shed a few tears about who you were to be the initiator of the good things that will happen. Somebody is becoming unstuck due to your efforts. You are too.

There are two dangers for the Dragon this year: tripping over your own ego and/or becoming overcome by potential aggression. Will it be yours or theirs? Yes, you are powerful. It’s also true that you need the same kind of protections as everyone else, maybe more in this year where you will receive so much attention. Take care of yourself and allow others to care for you. You are human and you cannot withstand endless injury.

Other challenges of the year come from your potential to offend your community through self-sabotaging actions, most likely poor communication. That’s not inevitable. This year it’s easier than usual to check yourself. Try to remember we all have a lane and use your signals. Above all, avoid taking credit for others’ work. You might be finishing it, but don’t forget where it started.

On the plus side, wearing the Magnificent Crown again is a lonely job, but someone has to be brilliant and as you know, solitude is a comfort zone for you. I think Dragons generally enjoy the energy that comes with 華葢 (Hua Gai). Don’t take yourself too seriously and your vision will be clearer. If you’re lonely I’m going to guess you are avoiding the people who want to be friends with you. Make acquaintances. Consider allowing yourself to cultivate some relationships that are just for fun. Be honest about your intentions.

“Wasting time” and other smaller, shiny things might be most helpful for you, shielding you from too much erosion. For a Dragon, this will include play, love, friends and the ways intimacy might influence you. How about a taste of each? There might be things you need more than money. What if one of the benefits of companionship is that it helps you to rest? Dragons are capable of facilitating and participating in some really special moments if they are willing to give up some of their time and space this year. It’s not a penalty.

If you’re still feeling doubtful about your impact in 2024, I would ask if it’s because you are feeling a bit worn down. In the years where Tiger and Rabbit are followed by a Wood Dragon and a Wood Snake, Dragons will tend to feel as if their stamina is being tested. Maybe knowing that Wood breaks up Earth will help you understand what I mean. It’s not a dire situation, and yet there is much to be gained from you resting more in 2024. Think it through. If you don’t identify when it’s break time the Universe will do it for you.

If you’re a Dragon who also has two of the other vaults ( Ox, Sheep, or Dog) in your Ba Zi, it’s likely you will be able to take on a major project in one of the following months: July 2024, October 2024, January 2025.

I encourage you to take this opportunity seriously even if your goal seems too big. Remember though, that this advice is too generic to apply without a knowledge of Ba Zi. If you book a reading with me we can talk about what this means for you.

The Fire Tiger Month of 2024

Fire Tiger Month ~ February 2024

The Fire Tiger, also sometimes called the Fiery Furnace, has arrived to begin the solar year of the Wood Dragon. The Tiger marks the beginning of spring which is the season of Wood. With Wood and Fire together this way, you can expect some insomnia, excitement, mania for the next two months. It may be difficult to find relaxation.

This may have a disproportionate effect on yin Wood stem people and yang Fire stem people regarding relationships and tempers flaring. That is what’s likely if you are already prone to such things. If you’re not, you’ll probably experience it indirectly – through your interactions with others.

Next month we have the Fire Rabbit, whose nickname is also Fiery Furnace. All of this Fire is technically out of season but strong. Maybe that will be reflected in the weather. The Fire is going to speed up time, almost as if the Dragon wants us to jump straight to April which is the Dragon month. There have been many moments lately where I would like to fast forward but – I’m feeling pressed for time too.

So to start the year we have Wood, Fire and Earth in play, along with unseasonal Fire. If you know your elemental cycles, the Wood would like to break up the earth or control it while the Fire is strengthened by the Wood. Fire creates Earth. This self-sustaining power struggle creates tension between movement and stillness. Both seem problematic. It feels like everything is changing and nothing has changed.

Practical Applications for the Month

If you want to slow down, seek Water. That means actively restoring yourself. Talking about your emotions/health/mental health is one solution and probably one of the most effective ones. It’s not that the talking will solve everything – it’s that the talking allows the possibility of change. Talking is output. Writing is output. What you do is output. Output gets things moving. It gets rid of excess if you have any. Output can also reduce anxiety. That might sound too simple, but most truths do.

If you are a yin Metal day stem person, the Tiger is a nobleman sign for you relating to money. Whether this means you get money or spend money depends mostly on your natal chart, but also on timing. If you want to understand this in more depth, you might book an hour with me to talk about it, either in the context of your Ba Zi or in the context of study.

If you are a yang Water day stem person, the Tiger is your Academic Star. The yang fire in the month Stem this month clashes you. This might be a benefit! If you want to know whether that’s true for you, you know where I am.

Yin Water Day stem people may find they get a “delivery of money”. This will be related to or a result of their work.

In a Wood Dragon year, if you have a Tiger in your Ba Zi this is a month where you might benefit financially (and otherwise) from travel. It could be a little lonely but maybe you’re looking for some space? As you know safe travel requires taking precautions for your health. This is also a month where you might be around people who are ill.

Water Rabbit Year Part 3: Wild Speculations

In the past, using Wild Speculations in the title of a year forecast might have been too over the top even for me, but not this year. Who ever thought there could be more wild conspiracy theories than there were in 2020? We should have asked the Water Rabbit of 2023. Our taxed brains would like to make sense of all this chaos, to see a pattern or to impose one. I want to see it too. Let’s take a look. I think you’ll find my speculations are not that wild after all.

This is the year of the Rabbit Running out of the Forest. I imagine this means coming out into a more open terrain. It’s easier to see what’s coming, but it’s also easier for predators to see you. We’ve been in darkness for some time now, and it’s darker in the forest, so let’s move into the light even if it feels a bit risky. We can find strength in numbers.

It’s a Water Rabbit year, also known as the year of the Black Rabbit. That’s because sometimes the color of Water is black. Keep that straight. The Lap Yum (shorthand description) is Gold Foil or Bronze Mirror. You’ll notice both of these names have to do with Metal and the “foil” seems to indicate continuing inflation. Money is weak. I’m still looking for the silver lining. It won’t have to do with money.

Rabbit Year or Cat Year?

Since the Water Rabbit might be a Black Rabbit, and some people would call it a Cat, or a Black Cat, it’s got me thinking: what if the Water Rabbit is actually a mink? After all, there is speculation that mink farms may have been involved in spreading Covid into human populations in 2020. That was a year of the Ingratitude Penalty, as is this year. We’re still thinking about what we might want to do about 2020 and what happened that year. We’re still talking about the origins of Covid, every day.

I’ve been observing the Cat vs Rabbit debate, and the “long cat” memes on Twitter, and I have to say, maybe the mink is the bridge to understanding the confusion between Rabbit and Cat, at least in this year. Minks are water rabbits. They don’t live in the water, but they like to live near it and they are comfortable with the cold. Of note, the mink seems to be one of the first mammals this year to be infected by H5N1, also known as bird flu. This was first noted in January I think, so I definitely relate this to the clash of Rabbit and Rooster.

Bird Clashed

In a Rabbit year, it’s the Rooster that is clashed. This is not to say that Wood can defeat Metal, but in this year, Metal will want to pack a lunch. Maybe your Metal is strong, maybe it’s not.

For divination, whatever system you are using, start with common sense and symbolism. In terms of daily life, things we might expect from the clash of Rabbit and Rooster seem pretty obvious.

I mean, the Eagles were never going to win the Super Bowl.

Here are some other examples:

  • Gas Lighting
  • Bird flu
  • “Euthanasia” of bird populations to prevent spread of disease
  • Promotion of MAID as an alternative to lack of care for humans
  • Egg shortages and/or inflated prices of eggs
  • Inflation
  • Criminalization of books
  • Fertility becomes currency; growth market for surrogate mothers
  • Sex workers, trans people, LGBTQ+ and Asian people are a focus of attacks
  • Commodification of the healthy body/brain for labor or other purposes
  • Travel systems get major overhaul due to dysfunction; people stay home
  • Trouble for business with a bird logo (!) or bird name
  • Christopher Bouzy, creator of the most robust Twitter alternative, was born in a Wood Rabbit year

There are quite a few airlines with bird logos. If you need to fly, maybe you’ll want to choose an airline without one.

Stars Go Flying

It’s a star 4 year so it will be a year of innovation and invention, led by women scientists, healers, researchers and explorers. Lunar patterns are calling for more attention than usual, matching with solar patterns and with natural events such as earthquakes. Rabbit is often associated with the Moon and yin kinds of power.

Alternative medicine practitioners will be on the leading edge of helping people with long Covid because they have already been treating it since 2020. Those who can recognize the imbalance of elements in the body don’t need a new term for diagnosis. They already know how to treat it. Chinese medicine specifically will become known for its effectiveness. Acupuncture will be instrumental in mitigating symptoms as well as restoring health to the extent that it can be restored.

Both Star 4 and the Water Rabbit agree that we are all offered to learn lessons that go deep this year. These will be lessons about ability, disability, fertility, women, rights, resources, the environment and – wind. I would think we will have more unusual wind events this year in the midwestern US. In 2023 inhaled medications will be further developed to prevent viral and other infections; an innovation in medicine involving “wind”.

I do expect more earthquakes this year than in other years, but I’m writing this a little late, am I not? We have already seen a 4.2 magnitude earthquake near Los Angeles in January and two major earthquakes in Turkey in February, a magnitude 7.8 quake and a 6.3 magnitude quake. A turkey is a bird too right? Like a Rooster.

For the US, I think there may be more earthquakes to come, maybe in March, likely off the coast of California. There are some other likely months that I won’t list here.

Regarding the PNW, where the 5 star is in the United States this year, we may also be due for some shifting plates. June suggests something, um… volcanic? Here in the upper left we also have a new trend where people regularly attack the power grid with guns. They are shooting power substations and transformers to disable them. This seems to be both an attempt to further reduce people’s domestic comforts, incite hate against certain groups by blaming them for the destruction, as well as being self sabotaging. Maybe it’s a Rooster thing? A Dog thing?

Then again, the Rabbit is just as likely to be involved with what certain people might call domestic terrorism this year. The problem with 2023 is it’s hard to say who’s the Rooster, who’s the Rabbit, and who is giving the orders. That’s an odd thing to say, but this is a year that will tempt people to try to win at any cost. Getting caught up in that energy makes us too much the same. Try to be different.

You can’t win if you don’t play.
You can’t play if you’re destroyed.

Water Rabbit Year Part 1 : All Roads Lead to Mom

Mary, Untier of Knots

A Rabbit year is one where maybe all roads lead to Mom, mothers. or concepts of mothers and mothering. The Earth is a Mother too. Maybe you’ll be thinking of your mom more than usual this year. I know I will be thinking of mine.

To put it bluntly, as a child would, I want my Mom. Moms can’t solve everything, but they can sometimes make you feel that it’s possible. I want to feel like it’s possible to figure out this big mess we’re in, don’t you?

I’m dedicating my work this year to my Mom, who passed away in 2022. She was always my biggest fan and encouraged me to explore and pursue anything I wanted to learn. Both my Grandma and my Mom were big believers in how education would change your life and, feeling the lack of formal education, they taught themselves many things beyond the domestic. They were always hungry for knowledge. Me too.

My Mom attended the county spelling bee with me as a participant, just as my Grandma did with her. She took me to the library every week until I was in middle school. She told me nothing was out of my reach, which wasn’t true, but it certainly served me better than telling me nothing was within it. I’m not saying she lied. I think she truly believed I could do anything. You know how moms can be.

My Mom gave me her belief that I could do things that no one else in my family has done, and I have. Now my children have too.

I hate it when people pretend that dead people were perfect, simply because they are dead, so I will admit that my Mom and I had our bad moments with each other too. Maybe those bad ones were just as important as the good ones, because they taught me I needed to learn how to work with my fraught emotions. It was safe to do that with her, although it was quite unpleasant. Neither one of us was good at conflict. Ultimately, we chose to become best friends and enjoyed each other in that way for many years. But our relationship wasn’t always like that. And, yes I do know that not everyone wants to be friends with their mom. I get it.

Sometimes I felt my Mom was insensitive. I think she learned to be thick skinned because so many people she loved made fun of her. They made fun of her excess of fear, and although I felt it too, I did my share of teasing along with them. I regret that. Regardless, my Mom thought I was brave and so, I was. Now I know how much my courage had to do with knowing she was always there.

Within the scope of any parent’s (or child’s) mistakes are doses of both medicine and poison. In life we will need to learn how to work with both. I don’t think my Mom was perfect but, apparently, she was just right for me. How else would I be so lucky as to be friends with my Mom in spite of our mistakes?

I miss my Mom, but I know I don’t really want her back, even though sometimes I think I do. I feel relieved that she is beyond physical suffering. I want her to be wherever she is supposed to be and I know she is everywhere now, always with me. I can feel her. It’s not my Mother that I want back, but the feeling of the beneficent Mother taking my side no matter what. The feeling that everything will be okay because She said so.

I would like that for all of us this year.

The Tiger in 2023 ~ Water Rabbit Year

Coming Down the Mountain

You may be capable of great things, but life consists of small things.

Ming-Dao Ding

I’m not one to instruct about karma, but there seems to be a correlation between people’s behavior when they are in power and what happens when that ends. Therefore, in 2023, I expect honest Tigers could write their own forecast for a pretty good year. As for Tigers who have gone wrong, not so much.*

Now that you’re back from exploring the many paths and conquering things that came into view in 2022, where do you go? There are pressing choices for Tigers to make and some of them may have to do with geography. Some Tigers are waiting to hear back from officials about plans they’ve proposed. Maybe last year you had gotten used to being first, as opposed to waiting for permission from others, but things have changed.

You can’t always be the boss of the year, and moving into 2023 may feel like coming down from a higher place. The conquering is over for now. It’s time to tend to details: the smaller, more domestic matters such as health. More than anything, this is a year to take care of yours. Pay special attention to supporting your immune system. Do this for elder or younger family members too. Averting potential illness is possible.

Although taking care of health is the most important work for the Tiger in 2023, unfortunately there are no medals. It’s not very glamorous. Some might even call it uneventful. That’s what I’m hoping. I want Tigers to continue on their way without obstruction. Knowing you, with Rabbit present, you still have big aspirations and plans, however, in 2023 Tigers are going to need allies to help them on their way. You’ll probably be more successful if you can accept that it may be time to follow the lead of those who are gentle and persistent. I recommend the Rabbit.

Since friends and associates will be key to your progress in 2023, I wonder if you have thanked the people who showed up to help you in 2022. That would likely be the Horse, Dog and Pig. They are the same ones who will be around to help you in 2023 when challenges are more personal. Might they be due some acknowledgment? An apology for past rough treatment? It might be time to stop questioning their magic, which mostly comes from their intention to love you.

I can’t prove this to you, Tiger, but I know you have experienced and benefitted from caring and faith throughout your life. Maybe you let others believe so you don’t have to. Trust is not your kind of risk is it? That might be something to work on in 2023.

Many a Tiger enhanced their social status in 2022, finding old and new friends and new places to play. This kind of energy is still rising for you in 2023. Maybe that’s why, with the changes and choices that are coming, you might feel some anxiousness about what you’ve built and how you might lose it by pursuing your prizes. Don’t forget that relationship is not an achievement, it’s a process. Maybe you’re worried about losing touch with family or friends, money or property. If these are possibilities for you, remember that you can’t judge the indefinite future by the events of one year. Thank goodness, right? Anyway, what if these “losses” are meant to help you move forward?

Tigers will get more out of the year by accepting that both they and the people around them need a little extra assistance. The Rabbit will challenge you to become a caregiver; to become more flexible about your pace and that of others’. You’re not going to be able to fake it, so if it’s a “no” for you regarding being a caretaker or taking more care of yourself, enlist help. If your year is Tiger, it may be that elders need your help. Don’t feel like you have to do everything on your own. You are good at organizing, but it’s really not your thing to be a nurse. Nothing to prove here.

In 2022, many Tigers found themselves dutifully attending to family matters while still finding the time to go on their Tiger adventures. When you’re the year boss you get certain privileges. When you’re not, there are more limits. Perhaps the wide range of your experiences in 2022 taught you some lessons about weakness and strength that go beyond the physical. Maybe now you understand that the people you see as weak support you as much or more than you support them, and that the strength of love goes beyond death. I want you to remember that sincerity is a multipurpose tool and probably your best one this year.

As I mentioned before, if Tiger is in your year, grandparents or parents may need assistance in the context of aging or illness. 2023 is a good year to help them support their immune systems, and avoid exhaustion or overwork.

This same advice applies to you. If you are tired or ill, rest. You don’t have to prove that you’re the apex predator all the time, not when you also know how to be the fiercest nurturer. Apply that energy to your family and yourself, especially if you were ill in 2022. Look for ways to boost your immunity. My understanding is that purposely getting infected doesn’t do that. Instead, take preventive measures: supplements, saunas, cold plunges, moderate exercise, sunlight, vaccines, masks.

If Tiger is in your month, you might benefit from to do lists, as it may be more difficult to keep up with all those small demands. If you find yourself becoming forgetful or checked out, you may be succumbing to duty. Seek the meaning of what is happening instead. This will help you with memory. Sometimes you can do everything, but that’s not this year. Ask for help if you need it. You don’t have to wait until you feel the situation is dire.

If Tiger is in your day branch, you may find yourself dating or marrying a partner with money. If you’re not interested in partnership, you can take comfort knowing your money is pretty secure. For all Tigers, I don’t think it’s money that will be your real concern in 2023.

If Tiger is in your hour and you have children, do what you can to protect their health this year. If they are adults, what you can do is stay in touch and encourage them to take care of themselves. Just knowing you care will mean a great deal. Protect your inner self, hopes and dreams. This might be a year where finding faith or counseling will sustain you.

I want you to watch your head this year Tiger, and by that I mean, what is going on in there, as well as what might bonk you. If you’re a west coast Tiger, make sure those tall bookcases are strapped to the wall. If you enjoy national parks or other areas with lots of tall trees, stay aware of your surroundings. Lots of falling trees these days. If you’re visiting a construction site, wear a hard hat. Please note you may be accident prone, so slow down.

I realize this is not the sunniest forecast, but it’s not meant to scare you. If you’ve worked with me before, you know I like to cover all the bases. If we know the possibilities we can make better choices in our actions, and that’s how you work with fate.

The Ox in 2023 ~ Water Rabbit Year

Crowns not Frowns

For the Ox, life since 2019 has been…eventful? 2022 may have knocked the Ox for a time loop – all the way back to 2020. What seemed great then has expired. What’s fresh is the pain of waking up to harsh reality. Even if the echoes of the Metal Rat are loud, you’re not the same person you were then. Permit yourself to recognize the ways you have grown stronger.

Return to those plans and goals you may have put aside. For best results, make sure they fit with what you want now. Some editing may be needed. With all of your creative potential in 2023, maybe you’ll want to keep your nose to the grindstone. That’s often a happy place for the Ox, where they might stay safe from knowing the things they don’t want to know.

An Ox life consists of short bursts of accelerated learning, divided by long periods of fertile stillness. In the Rat and Ox years, when life is more dynamic, the Ox may lose sight of things in their personal life that would normally be obvious to such a sensitive self. While you were preoccupied with external events and your rich inner life, you may have inadvertently conquered new territory. 2023 finds you wearing the Magnificent Crown, again, as you did in 2020. Maybe you’d like to abdicate, however, it’s probably more productive to go with what you can make of it. This situation is lonely but seems to turn out well for you.

Maybe you think you gave too much away in 2022, for no good reason. After all the flurry and the fierceness of the Tiger year, Oxen may be left feeling exposed. Are you angry about the potentially public nature of what you see as your humiliation? The Tiger year tended to pull out every secret and put it in your face. Maybe you felt stunned or pinned in place.

Oxen may be feeling let down by what they didn’t know and what they found out in 2022. Maybe you have some anger tickling at the back of your throat, or is that your authority you tried to swallow coming back out where you can use it? How does it feel to be free? Are you a little nervous?

This Rabbit year brings another lesson, this time about power, that is, the power of reinventing yourself. If you’ve been broken down, that means you could be anything you want to now. Reassemble. Don’t worry too much about the things you can’t control. That’s not the real lesson of power. Maybe your power is mostly about how you can grow things. It’s something like fertility, but not limited to what your physical body can do.

I think the good news about 2023 for the Ox is that, compared to the past few years, there’s just not a whole lot going on. This means you can go back to your talents and pleasures whatever those might be. It’s a good year for writing, so if that’s your thing, get to it. It’s okay to keep your creations and ideas under wraps this year. There aren’t as many opportunities to be heard, so craft and edit until next January, then show us what you’ve got. You’re used to keeping things organized and together but even though it’s not as eventful, 2023 may try to overwhelm you with details. Keep a calendar and a list of things to do at your side if you need help with that. There’s plenty of time.

In a Rabbit year it will be easier for any Ox to change their routines and habits, both the helpful and the unhelpful. Being an Ox, this might make you feel like things are out of control. At certain points of the year, like July, this will feel disturbingly true.

Remember that you endure. These changes you are going through are the kind that take you where you want to be. Don’t be afraid of enjoying it – that doesn’t mean you will be struck by lightning. That is, unless you have a Water Ox day pillar. If you do, you might be struck by metaphorical lightning, in a good way. I think you will experience a profound change, likely involving your values. The Water Rabbit of 2023 will certainly bring a change to your patterns – like a distinct new phase of your life. Let your ethics drive you to make the appropriate accompanying changes.

One thing the Rabbit brings for the Ox is an ease with facing down problems in the open. I’m not saying this is your cup of tea, but that it’s easier for you to access that kind of confronting energy this year. Because it’s the Rabbit, this doesn’t mean you have to come on aggressively, but rather with relentless charm, persistence and tolerance. This is a year that favors the Ox putting an end to an uncomfortable situation so go ahead and confront.

As is the case for anyone going through big life changes, the Ox may experience some loneliness as they set off on a new path. Like the Sheep, expressing your talents through home projects might be a good distraction from being alone. You have abundant creativity.

Get to know who you are now. You’ve been changed by these last years, noticeably. I wonder if you know. You can have a social life if you want one. Are you ready for that? Perhaps you have other things to focus on. Some Oxen have travel to do in 2023, which could also contribute to loneliness. It’s the loneliness of exploration. Maybe you’re doing something that no one expected you to do. Maybe you are choosing to be unpartnered? How scandalous! 🙂

Regarding health, the Ox may be accident prone or need to have surgery this year. It may be possible to avoid these things by giving blood, or catching up on dental procedures you’ve been putting off. Trim nails and hair regularly. Like the rest of us, the Ox will benefit from avoiding crowded indoor venues or places where people are ill.

In that context, you’ll want to know you may be called to take care of an older family member in 2023. You might decide to go, but don’t forget to consider your own health in the context of helping sick people. Take precautions and make the difficult decisions. No public sacrifices are needed even if it feels as if they are requested.

Take precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of your home too. Consider a getting a dog; a literal dog, not the Chinese Zodiac 戌 Dog. If you wear a uniform for your job, be aware of your environment. Know where the exits are. Should you encounter trouble, there’s always a way out. Not every year offers that.

As for money, it appears the Ox doesn’t have to worry too much about it in 2023. This is probably due to your high level of competency at what you do, that is, you can produce. Your skills will be highly valued this year.

In this Water Rabbit year, it may be that the Ox’s best friend Rat is going through some painful and difficult family events. Given the Rat’s recent behavior toward you, you’ll want to decide how much you want to be part of that experience with them. I suspect you will want to assist, but will you? I wouldn’t call you soft hearted so much as it’s hard for you to resist sadness. Maybe think about that for a minute, then be your caring self.

Those with an Ox in the month may find themselves worrying too much about things they can’t control. This is likely to be in the context of work. Know also that you may need to work alone this year and that is something you are quite capable of.

Lastly, the Ox can be stubborn because they often don’t see the point in changing. This is the year to consider just letting some changes happen.* In 2023 the impatience of going through this reconstruction might make Oxen prone to fits of bad temper. That means it’s time to practice your patience and tolerance. If you’re feeling like other people don’t like you, or that you are offending them, it may just be the energy of the year. Use your common sense.
